This pagoda, one of the holiest in Rangoon, is known for its 99 metre high rock called ?edi?, a 27 tonne stone and 27 tonne stone pagoda covering diamond, leaves and jewels.
Each insignia is intended to honour the eight Gautama Buddha Hair that is thought to be anchored in it. The Sule Pagoda can hardly be overlooked - the 2,000-year-old temple is located in the middle of a roundabout. Goldzedi, 46 metres high, is considered to be older than the Shwedagon pagoda. This temple's major feature is the 66 metre high Buddha lying on the ground - one of the largest statues in Southeast Asia.
In the temple there are also 108 engraved representations of the precious qualities the Buddha personified. The Botataung Pongo lies on the edge of the Yangon River and does not draw the masses of people from the more renowned places of worship, but it has one remarkable feature: a gold-plated Zig-Zag hallway winding around the inside of the 40-metre-high Yangon Pongo Zen.
