Getting to Taungoo
Please use the quick links below to go to the section about transportation in and around Taungoo. The Taungoo is located on the most important north-south connection of Yangon and Bago. Taungoo is run five daily in every sense. Yangon departure at 06:00 and 08:00 indicates the cheapest time to arrive (normal $5, first grade $10, top grade $13).
There are three sailings a day to Thazi and Mandalay, with Taungoo reaching Thazi ($11) about 6 hour later at 13:04, 21:35 and 00:04 and Mandalay three after that. Taungoo bus services start from Aung Mingalar bus terminal in Yangon and the journey lasts 6 to 7 hrs and cost 4,000kyats.
At Taungoo there are several bus stops spread out on the east side of the city - ask your guest house where you should buy your tickets - or you can buy them for a small extra charge. The bus from Taungoo to Mandalay is 8,000 kyats, and Meiktila (8-9 hours) 5,000kyats.
There is a night bus to Kalaw for 17.000 Kyats and several times in the evenings. When the slopes are full from Taungoo, you can go to another bus station, where you can take a through bus from Yangon. It is advisable that your accommodation or guest house calls the bus service to book you a place on your way out of Yangon - otherwise you are probably in the hall.
