YANGON, October 13 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar has started a tourism and conservation program for Yangon City, the Global New Light of Myanmar paper said on Friday. The Yangon City Heritage Preservation Trust is implementing the Yangon Municipal Trust with a grant of 180,000 Euro (213,169 US dollars) from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS).

The Yangon Trust says the town is being modernised without compromising its rich culture. Since September, the agencies have been carrying out Phase 1 of the tourism and culture legacy, which is expected to be completed in August 2018. According to the Yangon Trust, there are about 400 to 600 historical monuments in the former German state.

Some of them will be conserved and refurbished to be used for the common good after being approved by the state.
