Even though the main town of Myanmar has northbound to Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Myanmar - the town formerly known as Rangoon is 350 miles/565 km southward of Mandalay - Myanmar continues to be a major centre of culture and commerce. Its main tourist attractions are the Shwedagon Wooden Lounge, situated on a 14 hectare square with carpentry and sanctuaries. A tower with 5,000 brilliant-cut stones towers above the 326ft/98m high Buddha tower, which allegedly has eight Buddha beads.
