Myanmar's Yangon expands southwestward - Xinhua
Yangon, November 7 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's Yangon regional goverment is charting a southwestern development program with the municipality to found seven new satellites cities, the military-led Myawaddy Intelligence told on Monday. Seven proposed satellites are Yangon Eastern, Yangon South-West, Thanlyin, Dala, Htantabin, Hmawby and Helgu, Yangon Mayor U Maung Maung Soe was cited.
In 2040, the Greater Yangon Urban Development Program is to be carried out in collaboration with the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA). Satelite cities consist of housing districts, plants, garages and other operations taking into account prospective demographic change, the Mayor of Yangon said to the region's legislature. Southwest of the citieship between the Pan Hlaing River and the Twanty Canal and between the Hlaing River and the Hlaingtharya-Twanty Road on the edge of the west Yangon, the wellspring states.
Burma is preparing a Yangon urban planning blueprint with the involvement of elected government leaders, law enforcement professionals, government agencies and internationally experienced professionals. Under JICA's three-phase JICA blueprint, Stage 1 deals with the inner cities, while Stage 2 and Stage 3 are related to the suburbs and satellites, the officers said.
