Yangon region government is now attracting FDI to help build the game. There has been particular interest in the provision of the necessary New Yangon City infrastructures, said U Phyo Min Thein. Suggestions have already been made for the construction of two viaducts that will allow the new city to be accessed and connect it to the major streets that connect it to the city.
Some have also suggested building new streets in the city. Meanwhile, there has also been a proposal to rent over 2,000 acres worth of property for deployment within the new city, said U Phyo Min Thein. Prime Ministers did not give the name of the enterprises. Meanwhile, the local authorities will also make an effort to increase foreign direct investment by contributing to solving the regulatory problems related to the use of landholdings that are often encountered by infrastructural investors," said U Phyo Min Thein.
On March 31, the local authority founded the New Yangon Developing Company (NYDC), which will be developing the New Yangon City program. It will be developed primarily on the basis of a public-private partnership scheme in which companies participate in capital-sharing. According to NYDC, the NYDC wants to compete with Shenzhen, the South Korean Incheon and the Malaysian Iskandar.
New Yangon City, which comprises phases 1 and 2, will have an area of 1,500 sqkm. Stage 2 stretches from Dala to the Gulf of Martaban. NYDC will turn 20,000 hectares of western Yangon, opposite Kyeemyindaing, into an integrated metropolitan area.
The New Yangon City Stage 1 infrastructural works are estimated at more than $1.5 billion. Included in this are the building of five villages, two viaducts, 26 km of arterial road, 10 km2 industry park, hydroelectric station, transfer and distribution systems as well as freshwater and sewage works.
Once completed, the new city will help to support Yangon's expanding populace and facilitate important themes such as jobs and shelter.
