This interruption, which the firm described as transitory but perpetual, occurred after the Department of Civil Aviation abandoned its Aircraft Operator Certificate (AOC) and was presumably associated with an unsuccessful take-over offer from a competing airlines.
"We have asked all ticket agencies to apply the confirmation of our reservation to other local carriers. We' re going to help travellers get their reservations as far as possible," a spokesman for Yangon Airways said to the Myanmar Times on 25 November. "We do not know when we will be resuming regular service, but we will let the general population know when we are prepared to restart flights," she added.
The Yangon Airways management's declaration to the city' tour operator described the stay as a "crisis" and said it was "a thunderbolt. "To our great sorrow, we would like to announce that all our flight plan flights will be discontinued with effect from December 3, 2010 until further notice upon the authority's waiver of the Aircraft Operator Certificate," the declaration states.
"We have some trips and confirm reservations with Yangon Airways in December. Had they informed us sooner about the failure, it would have been better, because we could have prevented a reservation with them. It is a bustling period for the sector and we now need to make agreements with other national carriers," said a spokesman for a regional tour operator.
An Air Mandalay spokesman said it had obtained some bookings approved by Yangon Airways for travel after 3 December.
