Two years ago Min Thiya, 10, was wounded in an incident when he and his buddies were at play with UXOs in Kayin State, Myanmar. Drafting a children's bill and increasing government financing for vaccination programs and educational programs have shown a greater involvement in promoting children's literacy in the state, the government says.
Over half of all kids are living below the income threshold. Concentration of interest internationally has largely been on the state of Rakhine, where 120,000 IDPs - many of them Rohingyas ethnically - are living in refugee camps as a consequence of the intercommunal dispute that broke out in 2012. Following the attack on frontier guards, the level of force increased again last year.
What is less well known is the situa-tion in the far-flung Kachin, Shan and Kayin states and other frontier areas, where recurring conflicts between the Myanmar army and ethnic armed organizations are continuing to evict refugees from their houses. The civilian population is threatened by extreme levels of extreme poverty, statelessness and human traffic and has poor basic healthcare and schooling.
It demands better humane grass-roots accessibility to an estimated 2.2 million violent kids and an end to abuses, as well as the use of child soldiering. The EU supports the Consultative Commission's recommendation, led by former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, for a major obstetric registry and other investment in healthcare and educational facilities open to all infants.
Part of the money generated by recent Burmese economy expansion to invest in child and adolescent care can, according to the survey, help to lead the economy into a more prosperous as well as stabilised outlook. We work with our counterparts in 190 nations and areas to turn this engagement into hands-on actions, making a particular focus on targeting the most endangered and marginalized kids for the good of all of them.
