Where to Fly into MyanmarFlying to Myanmar
As to Myanmar airport: Is it Yangon or Mandalay?
Myanmar has three gates, not two. Naypyidaw, the country's newest airfield, is located in the very heart of nowhere. Two is enough even for a vast land like Myanmar. The Mandalay is Myanmar's largest airfield, bringing travellers nearer to the country's most popular destinations.
Far southwards, Yangon is older but has better access than its northerly competitor. Travellers from the USA or Europe travelling to Myanmar for the first case should plan a stopover at one of Southeast Asia's major centres - such as Changi in Singapore - before arriving. If that'?s out of the way, which Myanmar airfield should you fly to?
Flying to Myanmar - Take a connecting flight
More than 19 million results are available if you use Google.com to perform a Google.com based Google Myanmar or Myanmar based Google.com based Google flights query. To a certain degree, this shows that Myanmar has become increasingly sought after as a tourist location due to its long past and wealthy people.
But there are still no European or US connections, and tourists from these areas must have at least one link to an Aegean town. Myanmar has only two major multinational airports: Yangon and Mandalay Airfields. As there are no European and US connections when visiting Myanmar from these areas, the simplest option is to fly to a local airport such as Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Hong Kong first and then take a transfer service to Yangon or Mandalay.
Currently there are scheduled services to Yangon from Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Beijing, Kunming (China), Taipei, Seoul, Tokyo, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh (Cambodia). Bangkok, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur are the main destinations. The number of intercontinental arrivals in Mandalay, however, is significantly lower than in Yangon.
We only have airlines from China (Kunming and Dehong) and Thailand (Bangkok). Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and the Chinese continent are the most favoured travelers taking home connections. Some of the figures show that these are cheaper than the other states for a connection and there are more connections available.
As there are no airlines flying directly to Myanmar from the West, here are some tips on how to fly to Myanmar from different states. There are currently no airlines flying directly from Australia to Myanmar. However, in Sydney, Melbourne and other major towns there are airlines offering non-stop services to Bangkok, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Kuala Lumpur.
Yangon is easy to reach from these towns and Mandalay in Bangkok. You can reach Myanmar from Sydney or Melbourne, which includes flights and connections, in about 13hrs. So, if you take a scenic early bird from Australia, you can get there the same time.
When you decide to take an afternoon or early afternoon scenic trip, you can fly to Myanmar on the second half of the year. As there are no European- Myanmar connections, at least one service is required in another state. There are two alternate access plans: in the Middle Eastern region (such as Doha) or in South-East Asia or Eastern Asia towns (such as Bangkok, Hong Kong or Hanoi).
It is located in the centre of Eurasia, so the mean flying times are approximately the same for each part of the itinerary. In Doha you reach Myanmar in about 13 hrs, the mean flying per leg is about 6h.
You will have a relatively longer first leg of your trip in the Asiatic towns (Bangkok, Hong Kong, Hanoi, etc.), which takes about 11 hrs, and then another 1 to 2 hrs from there. The best route to Myanmar is Bangkok if you are flying from London. This not only saves you more travel times than when choosing other routes, but you can also select from more connected routes.
London-Bangkok flights last 11 hrs, and there is at least one hourly from Bangkok to Yangon, which lasts about 1h10min. So, taking transfer times into account, you can reach Yangon from London within 15h. You will be flying for about 13 hrs from London to Singapore or Kuala Lumpur, and from these two places to Yangon it will take about 3 hrs.
With a minimum of four daily departures from Singapore or Kuala Lumpur to Yangon, you can get to Yangon in 17hrs. The best connection from America to Myanmar is the Chinese continent, Hong Kong, Taiwan or the Middle East. When you depart from a destination without a plane to the above mentioned Asia destinations, you may need to transfer at least twice before arriving in Myanmar.
There are many airlines to China and Northeast Asia, and as long as the town has connections to Yangon, you can get connected with it. However, these towns usually have only one or two a day services to Yangon, so your wait for the service may be longer. Take the trip from Los Angeles to Yangon, for example.
Hongkong and Taipei are the best connection towns for this itinerary. There are 16hrs from Los Angeles to Hong Kong and 14½hrs to Taipei. It will take 3 hrs. 36 from Hong Kong to Yangon and 4 hrs. 46 from Taipei. Myanmar can only be reached in 21 hrs at the soonest, if you include the connection number.
From Doha, if you take a connection to Myanmar, you can reach it in 23h. You' ll be in the skies from Los Angeles to Doha for about 16 hrs and it will take another 5-6 hrs to get to Myanmar. Apart from Asia, Myanmar is a relatively remote target for other states.
To make better use of your travel schedule and have a more convenient travel experience, we suggest combining your Myanmar travel with trips to other key Asian cities offering air travel to Myanmar, such as China, Thailand and Vietnam. We have many airlines flying directly from Europe and America to China.
For those who have never been to China, you can schedule a 1-week or 2-week journey there before travelling to Myanmar. Or if you have already been to China, you can stop for a brief visit to China and then travel on to Myanmar. The majority of Chinese towns and villages have a 72-hour visa-free transition period (cities around Shanghai can even prolong visa-free policies to 144 hours), so this is really good for those who want to join forces in China and other South East Asia states.
Thailand, one of the most sought-after Western tourist attractions, is also a good link between your land and Myanmar. From 3 to 7 nights in Thailand, you can fly from Bangkok or Chiang Mai to Yangon. From some European and Oceania towns there are airlines to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
First 4 to 10 nights in Vietnam and then to fly to Myanmar is a good option. Please contact our sales representatives for further information on air and air transport to Southeast Asia and China. Attempt to select the same carrier or carrier arrangement so that your luggage can be handed in directly at your arrival point.
Attempt to get connections instead of book a stand-alone ticket so that the carrier can handle your second ticket quickly and simply if your first ticket is delayed or cancelled. Provide a route with all your travel numbers, data, charting time, order numbers and PNR code of the carriers and present them at check-in.
There' is no collaboration between the two airlines with which your flight is operated. There is no baggage check-in at the terminal. Baggage check-in services are not allowed under the customs regulations of the border state. Connection intervals are over 24hrs. You can book the flight with the same airline, but they are not connections.
