The best times to explore Myanmar (and its main attractions)

Like most places in Southeast Asia, the rainy seasons of the monsoons make it imperative to plan your journey to Myanmar unless you want to devote most of your free day to fighting deluge and floods or overheating. Burma is one of our favourite places in Asia, as it is still not as touristic as its neighbouring states.

In order to help you make the most of your Myanmar trip, here is some information about the best travel season and the most important things you can see and do wherever you go. Myanmar can be visited all year round because of its tropic weather.

Try not to come to Myanmar from June to September. The rainy period is in full activity during this period (especially from July to September). Sites such as Ngapali Beach even close during this period due to the inaccessibility of highways. Myanmar is the best place to be from November to February, as it is not too warm to wander around due to the cold breezes.

From March to May, however, it is extremely scalding, especially in the plain of Bagan and Mandalay. For a more detailed information on Myanmar and when to best explore certain areas, click here. I do, however, benefit from getting travel books for certain parts of the journey, especially in those places where I do not speak the native lang.

This Myanmar itinerary is for those of you who are a traveller on a DY. Otherwise I suggest the daily trips that Flymya offers all over Myanmar. Because of its position, even in the cold seasons, the temperature in Mandalay is still quite high.

Mandalay actually gets only about 9 rains on mean even in the high seson. I would try to schedule a journey from November to January to prevent the strong sun. During this period, the mean temp. is approx. 27°C. I would actually even suggest visiting during the wet period, just to prevent the intensive 40°C from February to April.

Mandalay and Bagan have quite similar meteorological characteristics due to their closeness to each other. From February to April, as noted, the temperature in these areas can become intolerable, especially if you go from place to place. Whenever possible, you should try to stay away from these seasons and drive here from December to April.

Myanmar's main town, Yangon, is best visited from November to April when there is little rains. In comparison to Mandalay and Burma the mean temperatures here are not so high (24°C). Hopefully this guidebook has assisted you in finding the best times to come to Myanmar so that you can make the most of the season and the weathers.
