Formerly Moulmein, it is the main town and the biggest in the state of Mon, Myanmar. It is located on the Taninthayi coastline. This is Myanmar's third biggest town with 300,000 inhabitants. Estimates of the local people are 75% Mon from Myanmar, Kayin, India and China. Part of the town was known as "Little England" because of the large Anglo-Burmese communities, many of whom were involved in the operation of caoutchouc plants.
