On 6 September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India will provide free visas to Myanmar's citizens wishing to enter the state. Mr Modi made this statement during his meeting with State Councillor Aung San Suu Kyi after the two heads had conducted extensive discussions in Nay Pyi Taw.

"I am delighted to announce that we have agreed to provide a free (free) visa to all Myanmar citizens wishing to travel to India," Mr Modi said. Mr. Bangemann also said that India has agreed to free 40 Myanmar citizens who are currently held in various prisons in India. "We are hoping that they will soon be able to see their family in Myanmar," said the Prime Minister.

Mr Modi also claimed that India on Myanmar is in the midst of the challenge before it. "I am optimistic that we will work together in the near term to build a powerful and mutually beneficial partnership," Mr Modi said. Speaking at delegations meeting, Mr Modi said: "We want to make a contribution to Myanmar's grassroots effort as part of our Sri Lankan seed vikaa initiative".
