Las Vegas Hotel in Venice
Classical Vegas for some, Italy on a shoot ring for many, this monster-size resort on over-the-top provides granddeur, theater and great rooms -- and draws much of the crowd. Anyone who is willing to give up their faith, if only for a brief time - say, as they stroll through a reproduction of St Mark's Square - might have the feeling of having entered Venice itself.
The Venetian, opened in May 1999, has more than 5,000 rooms and is one of the largest resort in the state. The estate is split into two separate spires - the Venetian one with 4,027 rooms; and the 1,013-room Venice, which was constructed in 2003 as an exlusive haven for towering players.
This may be the reason why - like an old ltalian cook who conceals his prescriptions - the Venetian does not tell what he sprays. Situated on the Strip, the Venetian is in the centre of everything and near local transport. Practically every Las Vegas Strip resort is 10 to 15 minutes by taxi from McCarran International Airport.
Spacious suites with recessed lounge rooms, three flat-screen televisions and stylish (but not too eye-catching) furnishings make these rooms the best on the Strip. With 650 sq. m. the Venetian rooms are among the biggest on the Strip (although the rooms on its affiliate site, the Palazzo, are even larger).
Bottom-toceiling window, three flat-screen HDTV LCDs (a 46-incher in the lounge, another 46-incher in the master suite and a 19-incher in the bathroom) and solid baths (which, at 130 sq ft, are bigger than some New York City hotels rooms) featuring soak sinks and Agraria San Francisco baths.
For example, the Piazza Suites weigh 1,400 m² and have a bathtub with jets, a walk-in wardrobe and an Italian-marbled lobby with hinged door. An animated pooldeck with Tao Beach (adults only), a world-class spas and a gym with an outdoor rockfall. Venetian has 10 swimming pools, among them the notorious Tao Beach, an exuberant swimming area for grown-ups.
There is also a swimming area in the neighbouring Palazzo, which is linked to the Venetian terraces by a footpath-. There is at least one swimmingpool which is opened in autumn and winters. Upstairs on the tenth level, next to the Venezia Towers, there is a lovely swimming area with flowering roses, two extra swimming baths and several small jacuzzis.
Las Vegas' biggest confectionery shop opened at the Grand Canal Shoppes in mid-2012. Venetian casinos have infinite lines of slot games, granite flooring, freshly painted blankets and a bustling online game room. Middle roles take notice that the Venetian does not offer commps to players who do not pay out the bigdollars.
Disneyland-like atmosphere of the resort should be a big success with the little ones; even regular rooms offer enough room to stay. Children like an exaggerated topical motel, and the Venetian provides gondolas trips in the commercial centre and many shows and live sculptures on St. Mark's Square.
Roller cots are available for a small charge, but not in regular rooms. This Venetian and his sibling, the Palazzo, together host five award-winning James Beard cooks, among them Emeril Lagasse's Delmonico's Steakhouse, Mario Batali's B&B Ristorante and Thomas Keller's Bouchon Restaurant in France. Gondoliere chanting, lavishly dressed musicians on the "Stadtplatz" A Venetian tour would not be perfect without a cable car trip; cable cars for four people, but also personal journeys for two people are possible.
There are six theatre shows every morning at St Mark's Square, beginning at 10 a.m. and featuring costumes, classical songs from Italy and sometimes even a man on stilt. If you are in Vegas and hope for a paintbrush with celebrities, consider a trip to Madame Tussauds wax museum, where celebrities don't say much - or move - although they are more than lucky to be posing for photographers.
As most mega hotels in Vegas, the Venetian has had big shows for a long while. When I was here, Blue Man Group and Phantom of the Opera were on. Next to it, in the Palazzo, the Venetian's nursery, there's even more going on.
