Notice to US citizens: Significance of Residence Registration with the Myanmar Authorities
IN RANGOON, THE U.S. EMBASSY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IS PROVIDING THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION ABOUT THE EMBASSY SUPERVISORY SYSTEM AS A CIVIL SERVICE TO U.S. NATIONALS IN BURMA. WE KINDLY: PLEASE SPREAD THIS NEWS TO ALL U.S. RESIDENTS IN YOUR ORGANIZATION OR NEIGHBORHOOD. A US national was recently arrested, fined $375 and expelled from Myanmar for not registering his whereabouts.
Burma laws require that visitors spend the night in listed accommodation. As a rule, the state tourist registrations are made through the hotel/guesthouse. US nationals may be enrolled in other forms of visa by their employers. To prevent accidental violations of this Act, the Embassy advises U.S. residents in Myanmar, for any reason other than to certify that their real place of residency is the same as that of the Myanmar state.
Please direct your queries about your registering state to the Aliens Department in your municipality. For more information on Burma in terms of transport and security, please see the country information for Burma. U.S. citizens' 911 number is +95 1 536 509.
Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has publicly warned the inhabitants of these townships that it is planning to mount a wide-ranging attack against Myanmar's army. There has been an increase in inter-Army conflict between the KIA and the Myanmar army in recent month. Force can extend beyond these two provinces. Check your own safety plan.
Non-immigrant visas: Tourisme & Visitor
In general, a non-national wishing to travel to the United States must first apply for a U.S. citizenship permit, either a non-immigrant transient or an immigration long-term resident permit. Visitors' Permits are not immigration permits for those wishing to travel to the United States in order to do businesses (visa class B-1), travel, entertainment or visits (visa class B-2).
It is recommended that the applicant does not buy their ticket until they have obtained their passport. Below are some samples of what you can do on a B-2 touristic visa: To find out more about Visitor and Visitor Permits (B-2), please consult the Department of State website.
