Myanmar and Bangladesh have ratified the agreement on the return of displaced persons from the State of Rakhine.
Mr Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, was invited by U Kyaw Tint Swe, Union Minister for the State Council, to Myanmar from 22 to 23 November 2017. The Bangladesh Mission was jointly presided over by U Kyaw Tint Swe, Minister for the State Council Office, and Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, during the Ministerial Meeting to debate the agreement on the return of displaced persons from the State of Rakhine at the Ministry of State Council on 22 November 2017 at 1600h.
On 23 November 2017, U Kyaw Tint Swe, Union Minister for the Office of the Council of State, and Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, at 2 p.m. in the meeting room of the Ministry of State Council, ratified the agreement on the return of displaced persons from the State of Rakhine.
On the basis of the 1992 Joint Declaration of Foreign Ministers of the Government of the Union of Myanmar and the People's Republic of Bangladesh, the Convention laid down general guidelines and political rules for the systematic review and reception of expellees from the State of Rakhine. Myanmar's basic stance is that questions arising between neighboring states must be solved by mutual agreement through dialog.
This agreement, which has been concluded by both parties on the basis of their amicable and good neighborly relationship, shows Myanmar's unshakeable stance and is a win-win for both parties.
