1974 in the airline's original coloring. In the 80s and 1990s, the company was afflicted by several problems. Most notoriously, Turkish Airlines 981 crashed in 1974 when a construction fault near Ermenonville, France, caused the demolition of a defective freight gate, resulting in the death of 346 passengers.

It was able to perform both minor and major service work on various aircrafts. According to Air Transport World, a fourth of the airline's 6,000 workers were technicians. THY took off on a non-stop service to New York City in July 1994. This year, the carrier also upgraded three of its Boeing 727s to special-cargoers.

Although lucrative, THY had to struggle with Turkey's excessive rate of price increases, which made it harder to improve its financial position. Farben in 2012; the company was the clubs formal sponsorship and sponsorship between 2010 and 2013. After the September 11 terrorist attack on the United States, THY survived without state aid or collective redundancies, even though 300 jobs were reduced in mid-level managers, 400 part-time workers were dismissed and salaries were reduced by 10 per cent.

The Turkish Daily News attributed the airline's continued existence to corporate managers, who quickly freed themselves from loss-making domestic and international airlines. The Iraq conflict in 2003 caused Turkish Airlines to shut down several Persian Gulf airlines, while air travel to Asia was halted during the SARS outbreak.

The airlines quickly rebounded, however, so air travel on the current lines increased and Delhi was re-launched after 11 years. This July, the company placed a huge order for $2. 8 billion of 36 beams from Airbus, plus an order for 15 Boeing 737s. It had established a significant engineering operations which operated not only its own but also those of third party airlines.

Turkey Technic had 2,700 employees and wanted to employ another 2,000 by 2010. Three of THY's flightsimulators were available and THY provided flying schooling. It was confronted with the emergence of new entrants into the liberalising Turkish air transport sector. In 2005 THY sold its 50% stake in Cyprus Turkish Airlines (K?br?s Türk Hava Yollar?).

TURKISH superseded TURKAIR as the new call signal for Turkish Airlines in April 2010. The Turkish authorities presented in December 2011 a plan to modernise Aden Adde Airport in Mogadishu, Somalia, which became one of the airline's newest airfields in 2012. In March 2012, Turkish Airlines became the first truly global airline to return to Somalia since the beginning of the early 90s.

Since April 2018[update], the chair has been taken over by ?lker Ayc? Turkey Airlines was Galatasaray's jersey sponsors for the 2014-15 UEFA Champions League and the Bosnia team FK Sarajevo. It has since sponsored the Turkish clubs' europ campaign such as Fenerbahçe and Ba?ak?ehir.

Aeroplanes' stomachs had an aluminium paint, while the nostrils were dark, and the text on the aeroplane was "THY Türk Hava Yollar?-Turkish Airlines" on the lefthand side; on the right-hand side the design was the same with a different text "Türk Hava Yollar?-Turkish Airlines THY". Turkish Airlines has had 19 events and casualties in its entirety, 15 of which have been fatal. To date, Turkish Airlines has been involved in 19 of them.
