Torrance is a US city in the South Bay (southwest) region of Los Angeles County, California. The most southern part of Torrance Beach, on a bay at the north end of the Palos Verdes Penninsula, is known to the local people as Rat Beach (Right After Torrance). The Torrance has a Mediterranean temperate zone (Köppen: Csb), which borders narrowly on a sub-tropical plateau temperate zone (Köppen: Cwb).

Torrance's race composition was 74,333 (51. 1%) white, 50,240 (34. 5%) Asiatic, 3,955 (2. 7%) Afro-American, 554 (0. 4%) Aboriginal, 530 (0. 4%) Pacific Islanders, 7,808 (5. 4%) of other breeds and 8,018 (5. 5%) of two or more breeds. At the time of the census[31] in 2000, 137,946 persons, 54,542 homes and 36,270 homes were living in the town.

Breed composition of the town was 59. There were 23 people in the town. In 2008, the average revenue for a single house in the municipality was $79,312, and the average revenue for a single home was $98,473. Per capita incomes in the town were $39,118. The US head office of the American Honda Motor Company is located in Torrance.

Helicopters are developed and manufactured in Torrance, as are Honeywell's Garrett turboloaders, which are used in automotive engine applications around the world. Founded in Torrance, Alcoa Fastening Systems (now known as Arconic) manufactures connectors for the aviation and space industries. Pelican Products, Pacific Sales and Rapiscan Systems are just a few of the other businesses located in Torrance. The Torrance Report 2012 states that Major English Enterprises in the city[36] are the top 10 employer in the country (and the number of employees):

In Torrance is also the home of the King's Dawaiian home factory, the dominating Nawaiian loaf mark in North America. 40 ] Younger Optics, Torrance's tenth-largest employers, is said to have created the first ever smooth or "invisible" bi-focal, a predecessor of all varifocals. Mitsuwa Marketplace[41] and Nijiya Market[42] are headquartered in Torrance, and the Torrance Arts Center organizes annual culture activities.

The Torrance Arts Foundation (TOCA), in collaboration with the city of Torrance, offers a variety of culture, education and fun activities. Further productions are offered by the Torrance Performing Arts Consortium, which includes The Aerospace Players, Torrance Art Museum, Los Cancioneros Master Chorale, South Bay Ballet, South Bay Conservatory and The Torrance Symphony.

The Torrance emergency call centre is based at the Torrance Metropolitan Area and is in charge of all emergency phone numbers from Torrance.

Services of merchant carriers are available within 15 min at Los Angeles International Airport and Long Beach Airport. The Torrance Union School District (TUSD) was founded in 1947 and standardized in 1948. Torrance, bounded to the southern side by the Palos Verdes peninsula, Redondo Beach and Gardena to the northern side, Los Angeles (Harbor Gateway) to the eastern side and the Pacific Ocean to the western side.
