Todra Gorge

Discover the Todra Gorge and discover the best time and places to visit. Canyon of Todra - Tinghir Province, Morocco Located on the eastern side of the High Atlas in Morocco, the Todra Gorge is considered one of the most dramatic gorges in the area. Here both the Todra and Dades Rivers have dug gorges on their last 25 miles through the hills that have left this set of relief and etchings in the rocks.

Todra is the name of the last 600 metres (almost 2,000 feet) of the canyon. This gorge only has 33 ft in places, but the rocks are more than 500 ft high on both sides. Meanwhile, the riverbank has become dry and leaves only the fantasy to imagine the mighty powers of nature that once formed this area.

Although in a faraway area of Morocco, the gorge is a favourite travel spot and over the years has been equipped with trails and a well-maintained country lane that the visitor has to pass with burros and other beasts of burden.

Todgha Gorge's last 600 meters are the most dramatic. The gorge is narrowed into a shallow, rocky path, only 10 meters in width in places, with rugged and slippery cliffs up to 160 meters high on each side. From Tinerhir, a well-maintained tarmac path climbs up into the gorge.

There is a paved street leading up the hill, past the hotel at the gorge estuary to the towns of Aït Hani and Tamtatouchte.
