The renovation will begin on 1 May 2016 and the hotel will reopen in November 2016. Strand Hotel is Yangon's oldest hotel, constructed in 1901 by the Sarkies and considered the Grand Lady of Yangon. Strand Hotel is a classical architectural building with a colonnade porch and granite flooring, genuine wooden stairs and handcrafted lacquer ceilings made.

Strand Café offers both breakfasts and lunches, which focus on traditional Myanmar cooking and West German dishes, as well as the now renowned Strand High Teat.
