Myanmar Information Managment Unit / MIMU is a unit for the UN Country Team and the Humanitarian Country Team under the leadership of the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator. The aim is to enhance the analytical and decision-making capacities of a large number of players - among them the United Nations, the humanitarian team, non-governmental organisations, donor organisations and other players inside and outside Myanmar - by enhancing the co-ordination, gathering, processing, analysing and disseminating of information.
The project also played a pivotal part in fostering the promotion of norms on information, georeferencing and information governance between UN organizations and NGOs, as well as establishing policies for the storage of information, working with working groups on technology to pool available information from different resources and promote the use of the norms established by these groups, and support broader process of process improvement in the field of design and implementation.
This GIS working group bundles the GIS priorities of the GIS agency with geography and geodata work. This provides a technological framework for coordinating, supporting and exchanging information on GIS activity and defining geodata standard. This information management network will bring together the IM priorities from a range of consultancies to enhance the information qualities for evidence-based and efficient policies, programming and management decision-making through a co-ordinated effort building on the appropriate information frameworks.
Myanmar Information Managment Union (MIMU) provides information managment support to support the assessment and decision-making of the MIMU. Maintain a shared database and information warehouse with information from various resources on all sector, nationwide, in the bottom level administration for which it is available.
The information will then be made widely available to UN, NGO, donors and governments in the format of cards, databanks and other instruments supporting the co-ordination, programming and delivery of relief and deployment policies. Founded in 2007, the unit is supported administratively by UNDP. Shared information assets such as contact lists, meeting schedules describing 3W which agent does what where; an evaluation and publication register; comprehensive basic information on a range of available source indices, GIS and map service providers that include the definitions of location code to encourage precise village and public authority activity cartography to prevent overlap and gap; high-quality map assistance; disaster recovery plans that identify areas that could be affected by large incidents such as a disaster; geographical information system capacities build-up; assistance in setting core information and information governance metrics; and map service definitions.
