The Pha That Luang is a gold-clad large Buddhist stupa in the centre of Vientiane, Laos. This Luang or the Great Stupa in Vientiane is a national symbol (his picture is on the official seal of Laos) and also the holiest monument of the country. Vientiane was named after Luang Prabang in the mid-sixteenth century. Pha That Luang or "Great Stupa" is the most important Buddhist monument in Laos.
