Taxi Yangon Airport to CityAirport Taxi Yangon to City
Taxis from Yangon Airport
I' ll arrive at Yangon airport about 6 hrs ahead of the group I'm travelling with. I was just thinking, how much is a taxi from the airport to the Park Royal Hotel? There' is a taxi counter (you will have to pick up your taxi there), fix rate to the city, about US$10.
Taxidrivers/taxi counters are accepting both US$ and Kie. I' ve noticed that the taxi driver demands about 1000 karat less than the newsstand - but the newsstand cabs are always of better qualitiy. When you use the newsstand, you and your baggage will be taken to the taxi.

What does a taxi fare cost? There is no commute from the city centre to the airport. It' less fare for a taxi and then it is better to take a taxi to the airport. For a taxi trip you will have to settle about 8 thousand (10 USD). Taxis are the only option unless you are booking with your hotels for pickup, which is costly.
Taxicab is about 6500kyats, that's about 8$to9$ to the city. I' m a little bit amazed they don't have busses to the airport. Thought every airport had airport busses or a city shuttle service to the airport. I' ve only seen this and I am worried:'Travellers should bear in mind that there are no taximeters or fixed rates for these taxi journeys; therefore it is necessary to negotiate or agree on the fare in advance (at least if you want to prevent very high fees)'.
Do you really have to arrange the fee with the taxi drivers before you take the taxi? There' s a taxi stand at the airport with firm (ish) rates, but the cabs are usually old, from SEAsia with right-driven. I' d still rather be in a taxi in Yangon than in Bangkok city centre.
Well, except the airport taxi with fix rate, I have to ask in advance how much before I take a taxi to any place. How about city coaches? All you have to do is sit back and watch the busses, they are 40/50 years old (ex-Korean?) and the air conditioning is open all the way to the window and doorways - unless the door is locked by natives outside.
Favourite public transportation is a metal umbrella pick-up - anywhere in the whole wide globe (except India) it would take 8 persons - in Yangon it will be twice as big as with extra items on the back. Get a taxi and ask for a rate - when you leave your property, ask them to quote a rate for you.
