The South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands are members of the Steering Group of the Training and Research Programme, which promotes the management of the CDP. Each year JNCC asks the Academy's and CD's for information about their three main research areas (members of the Academy and the CD Training and Research Programme Steering Group).
A number of research grants, which include JNCC research contributions, will be awarded on the basis of these priority areas. The JNCC is able to provide resources for OT and CD participation in environment schooling. The JNCC has participated in an interdisciplinary research program on the South Seallion Program. As part of the International Year of Biodiversity, the UK Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) financed a number of invasion biodiversity conservation and conservation activities in the UK overseas territories in 2010.
In South Georgia, the focus of the South Georgia study was on carrying out Benthian (marine) studies at important locations to assess the existence and scale of foreign naval invaders.
