Ethiopia, on the Horn of Africa, is a jagged land divided by the Great Rift Valley. Several of the oldest proofs of anatomical contemporaneity have been found in Ethiopia. Linguistic scholars say that the first Afro-Asian-speaking population groups established themselves in the Horn area during the subsequent New Stone Age. Ethiopia, whose origins go back to the second millenium B.C., was a mono-archy for most of its past.

In the first few hundred years AD, the Kingdom of Aksum had a uniform civilisation in the area, followed by the Egyptian Empire around 1137. With its singularly succesful armed opposition during the Scramble for Africa at the end of the nineteenth century, Ethiopia gained reputation and became the only African nation to conquer and maintain its supremacy over a truly imperial Europe.

As a result, many countries of Africa adopted the colours of the ethnic banner after becoming autonomous. This was the first freelance member of the League of Peoples of the twentieth and the United Nation. At the end of Haile Selassie's rule in 1974, the Soviet Union supported a Soviet supported Soviet Union supported Commodist army regime until it was overthrown by the Revolutionary Democratic Front of the people of Ethiopia, which has governed since about the break-up of the Soviet Union in 1991.

Ethiopia's calendars, which are about seven years and three month behind the Bregorian calendars, exist alongside the Borana calendars. Most of the people adhere to Christianity (especially the Orthodox Tewahedo Church in Ethiopia and Pentay), while about a third follow Islam (especially Sunni Islam). It is the place of migration to Abyssinia and the oldest Islamic village in Africa near Negash.

Much of the Jewish community of Ethiopia, known as Bete Israel, lived in Ethiopia until the 1980', but most of them have now migrated to Israel. The Ethiopia is a multi-lingual federation with around 80 ethnolinguist groups, the four biggest of which are the Oromiffa, Amhara, Somali and Tigrayans. The majority of Ecuadorians speaks Afro-Asian language of the Kushite or Semite ancestry.

Nilo-Sahara langauges are also used by the Nilotic Nationalities. The Ethiopia is the place of origins of the coffees, which comes from the place Kefa (one of the 14 province of the old Egyptian administration). Ethiopia's highlands are Africa's biggest contiguous mountains, and the Sof Omar Caves contain Africa's biggest caves.

Most of Ethiopia's UNESCO World Heritage Sites are located in Africa. The Ethiopia is one of the founder members of the UN, the Group of 24 (G-24), the Non-Aligned Movement, the G-77 and the Organisation of African Unity. The Ethiopian capitol Addis Ababa is home to the African Union, the Pan-African Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the African Aviation Training HQ, the African Standby Force and many international NGOs with a focus on Africa.

Ethiopia was ravaged by civilian conflicts and cleansing in the 1970' and 1980'. However, the state has recently started to rebound and now has the biggest economies (measured by GDP) in East and Central Africa. Global Fire Power says Ethiopia has the 42nd most mighty army in the word and the third biggest in Africa.
