India's fast-paced economy is increasing its need for power. Forecasters predict an over 100% growth in power usage from 2015 to 2035. In 2010 Sembcorp joined the India power generation and distribution sector. Today, our subsidiary in India, Sembcorp India Limited, a nation's premier independently owned power generator, operates and develops around 4.37 GW of heat and renewables.
We have two incineration power stations in the Nellore District, Andhra Pradesh, with four 660 megawatt critical coal-fired power stations. They have a combined output of 2.64 GW and are rated for more sustained power generation. This super-critical power plant allows them to work with lower emissions in comparison to sub-critical power stations.
Furthermore, the facilities use seawater for power production, so that no valuable groundwater is required. Fuels for the facilities are shipped from the near harbour of Krishnapatnam through enclosed conveyer belts to ensure security, dependability and eco-friendliness. In the field of renewables, we own and manage windpower and photovoltaic energy in seven Indian states.
With a total output of more than 1,700 MW, these regenerative power plants contain 800 MW, which were won in India's domestic bids for offshore power plants in 2017 and February 2018. Through our renewables activities, we are helping to promote cleaner energies in India, where the Indian authorities intend to increase renewables to 175 GW by 2022.
Sembcorp Energy India Limited will continue to drive India's growth and wealth with this diverse and diverse investment diversification package.
