The Royal Air Maroc-Compagnie Nationale de Transports Aériens was created in July 1953 (1953-07) from the fusion of the Compagnie Chérifienne de'l Air (Air Atlas), established in 1946, with Junkers Ju-52s and the Compagnie Chérifienne de Transports Aériens Air Maroc, established in 1947 and commissioned in 1949.

Royal Air Maroc (RAM) was adopted on 28 June 1957 (1957-06-28),[nb 1] with a 67.73% shareholding from the Moroccan State. 6 ]:101 In July several long-haul flights with four Lockheed L-749 Constellations rented by Air France were taken off and the Oran-Oujda coast route, which was interrupted in May, was inaugurated.

In 1970 Royal Air Maroc received the first Boeing 727-200 [17], which was put into operation by the airlines on 15 May. Royal Air Inter was founded at the beginning of the year to operate Fokker F-27 Friendship Equipments on national flights; this affiliated airlines commenced operation on 2 April 1970 and served Agadir, Al Hoceima, Casablanca, Fez, Marrakech, Oujda, Rabat, Tangier and Tetouan in May 1971 (1971-05).

18 ] In May 1971 (1971-05), the company's portfolio of memory equipment included two Boeing 727-200s, four carvelles and two SF.260s. 19] A third Boeing 727-200 was ordered in 1972 for 8.85 million US dollars. 20 ] In 1974, the airline ordered a Boeing 727-200 Advanced,[21] followed by a Boeing 727-200.

22 ] Also this year, talks began with Air France to rent a Boeing 707-320B. In March 1975 (1975-03) the Boeing 707 together with four Boeing 727-200, four Caribbeanlles and two Swiss Aircraft Association Marcheetti SF.260 were part of an eleven-man group. The Boeing 707 was first flown to New York by the company in April 1975 (1975-04), making it the first Arabian carrier to fly to this city.

In the course of the year, the airline purchased three Boeing 737-200s to take the place of the Caravelles. At the beginning of 1976, an order was placed for three more Boeing 727-200s. The Boeing 747-200B was added to the aircraft in September 1978 (1978-09). Meanwhile, newer, more effective Boeing 737s of the Classics 400 and 500 series have been launched to boost the frequencies of Europe's highways.

Royal Air Maroc bought a Boeing 747-400 to strengthen its activities in the United States. The year 2000 saw an order for 20 next-generation Boeing 737s and 4 Airbus A321s. That means that Royal Air Maroc will face fierce competitive pressure from low-cost airlines wishing to operate viable flights between Western Europe and Morocco.

Another major obstacle is the high costs of jet fuel and the fact that the airline may have to abandon some of its unviable national and cross-border services. August 21, 1994: an ATR 42-300 with flight 630, the internal line Agadir-Casablanca dropped at 16000 ft, plunged into a precipitous dives and fell into near mountaine.
