Burma welcomes the attitude of some members of the Security Council who have defended the non-intervention rule in the domestic matters of sovereign states. Publication of the President's statement disregards the fact that the problems faced by Myanmar and Bangladesh today can only be solved on a bilateral and friendly basis between two neighboring states.
Furthermore, the President's statement could potentially and seriously affect the smooth and speedy nature of bi-lateral talks between the two states. Nay Pyi Taw, Minister of the Interior of Bangladesh, attended the meeting from 23 to 25 October 2017, as mentioned in the President's statement. They have successfully agreed and two important papers have been initialled which will have a positive effect on frontier safety between the two states.
Bangladesh's Foreign Minister was in Myanmar from 16 to 18 November 2017.
