It seems to never end and it is so invigorating to flee the Yangon region into the Myamar landscape. A simple daily excursion from Yangon, it has a relatively quiet, comfortable, small-town atmosphere. Busses depart from Aung Mingalar bus terminal in northern Yangon. The price starts at 3,000Ks and the ride lasts up to 2h.
The peaceful Dalah may be only 10 min by boat from Yangon city centre, but the quiet, quiet place is a million leagues away. It will take about 10 min. and costs US$4 for overseas. The Golden Rock is situated on Mount Kyaiktiyo, which provides an amazing view over the Mon State.
You can either take the four-hour walk (start early because of the heat), which is exhausting, but it is also possible for those who already have a good physical condition. It is 25 kilometers from Yangon. It is about 30 minutes from the city centre and cabs should be between 15,000Ks and 20,000Ks for the comeback.
Concealed in the Thaketa lodge, this vast crop farmyard is home to a dozen of the scary, beautiful sorts. While the Thaketa Intellectual Estates, Thaketa Townhip is not easily found, once you are in the industry area, you will have to go on alligator action and most natives will normally point you in the right directions.
Taxis take about 30 min from the city centre and are about 6,000Ks each way. Thanlyin, called Syriam by the British, is just a few steps from Yangon via the Bago River. The price varies, but is about 12.000Ks and the trip to Kinpun, the city at the foot of the hill, lasts about 4 h.
Approximately an hour's car ride from Yangon, Hlawga National Park has a wide variety of wild animals outside the borders of Yangon. Taxi's can be rented for the whole days for about 20.000Ks and the trip lasts 45 min to 1h. The Taukkyan Graveyard was opened in 1951 in memory of the memory of the Alliance troops who were killed in various World War II fighting for Myanmar and contains the tombs of more than 6,000 troops, some of whom were killed in the First World War.
One of the highlights of each trip is the beautiful Kyauktan Ye la Pagode, which is located on an islet in the centre of the canal. Taxi's take between 30 min. and 1 hr. and can be rented for about 7,000Ks each way. Only a few kilometres from Yangon, Twante is famous for its potteries.
Guests can come to the plants to see the workmen who do their work. You can reach Twante by lorry, cab or motorcycle from Dalah. It will take about 40 min. and will cost 2.000-4.000Ks. White Elephant is an important beast in Burma's civilization and the place is worth a stop for those who want to learn more about the country's people.
