What is the number of time zones in New Zealand? There are 2 major New Zealand isles, North Island and South Island, in the same time zone. Chatham Island, about 860 kilometres eastern of Christchurch, has its own time zone 45 kilometres from New Zealand's continent.

Tokelau, an Pacific island and dependent on New Zealand, has 3 time bands. Tokelau does not use daylight saving time, so there are only 2 corresponding daylight saving time areas. Above time zone is used during other seasons. After the next time changeover, they become activated again when daylight saving time begins or ends.

New Zealand NZST is used as the default time on the land, while New Zealand Daylight Time (NZDT) is used during daylight savings time. Chatham Islands use Chatham Island Default Time (CHAST) as default time, while Chatham Island Daylight Time (CHADT) is monitored during daylight saving time. New Zealand's dependence on Tokelau has no daylight savings time.
