City of Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar

Burmese: Nay Pyi Taw, also Nay Pyi Daw or Naypyidaw, town, capitol of Myanmar (Burma). The Nay Pyi Taw was established at the beginning of the 21 st cent. in the middle of Myanmar as the new administration area. Nay Pyi Taw began building in 2004 in an isolation near the town of Pyinmana, about 320 km northern of the then capitol Yangon (formerly Rangoon).

As the move of the capitol would make it easier to reach the authorities from all parts of the state, the authorities began moving in 2005, first to Pyinmana and then to Nay Pyi Taw, which was declared the capitol in March 2006. During the early years Nay Pyi Taw was little more than goverment houses, luxurious accommodations, flats and an airfield, and it was mainly inhabited by officials, many of whom stayed in Yangon due to the shortage of stores, dining and other comforts.

In spite of its finite possibilities, the up-and-coming town has been continuously supplied with power - a rare occurrence in the whole state. The use of Nay Pyi Taw International Park was generally confined to army staff, otherwise the town can be reached from Yangon by car or train (with a train stop near Pyinmana).
