Situated 35 km from Mandalay, Tada-U (Burmese: ????? ???? ???????????? ??????) is one of three airport in Myanmar where evissa is franked on a passport. It is the biggest and most advanced of its kind in the world, linking eleven national and four major cities with a 14,000 foot (4267 m) long airstrip, the longest in Southeast Asia with a passenger traffic volume of up to 3 million per year.
This is the most important operational basis of Golden Myanmar Airlines. Mandalay International Airportproject was designed by the Myanmar Army Administration in the mid-1990s to raise the overall level of foreign investments and tourist activity in Myanmar. Mandalay was considered decisive for a 10% year on year projected rise in the number of passengers.
It was hoped that Mandalay would become a turntable for flying to other large Asiatic towns. Work on the building of the aerodrome began in 1996 and was formally opened in September 2000. It was funded by a long-term Thai ExIm Bank credit. As a result of the current reform process in Myanmar, the international airports have started to expand air travel, particularly to Bangkok and China.
Mandalay has seen a 20% increase in annual national air travel since 2010 and an annual increase of up to 60% in global air travel. Inaugurated on 17 September 2000, the airport complex can accommodate 1000 passengers arriving and 1000 departing per hours. It covers a surface area of 10,123 ha and is situated in the centre of Burma, about 35 km southwards of Mandalay.
It is about an hour's drive from the Mandalay International Centre to the town. Mandalay Airport's airstrip is long enough for landing airliners of all sizes. Facilities for passengers:
