Burma is the biggest continent of Southeast Asia, about twice the world' s population. In 1996, after more than 34 years of almost total insulation, tourists began afresh when visas were amended and made easier to obtain. Since then, the facilities the tourist can rely on have greatly enhanced but still do not really meet global norms at all scales and a sense of adjustment and tolerant behaviour is sometimes necessary to travel to Myanmar.
Yangon and Mandalay have a number of two to five stars properties. Bagan and the Inle Lake area offer travelers a selection of enchanting, traditionally designed lodgings that have been constructed in a locally style in beautiful places. Asia's Asia's largest value airlines has instead upgraded its Bangkok-Yangon service from one to two times a day and launched a new Kuala Lumpur service every day to make Myanmar more convenient for price-conscious people. Myanmar's major local airlines, Air Bagan, also launched twice a week services to Chiang Mai and Phuket.
Burma Airways has commenced operations to Guangzhou, Siem Reap and Jakarta (via SIN). The four privately owned carriers Air Bagan, Air Mandalay, Asian Wings and Air KBZ operate internal airlines. Cancelled in December 2010. Between Yangon and the new capitol Naypidaw a new highway was opened according to world standards, which helped to shorten the travelling time from Yangon to Oberburma.
Mandalay highway expansion is now complete and inland land transport, especially for groups, is now a useful flight choice. On the Yangon - Bagan line, a new, more advanced railway was launched over night. Although the locomotive does not meet EU norms, it can be likened to locomotives from other Southeast Asia states.
Only adventurous travelers should use this feature. Riding a speed boat shortens the trip from 5-6 hrs to only 3 hrs. The new middle class Ayeyarwaddy River View has been opened in Mandalay in March 2011. The Kandawgyi Palace, the Golden Teak in Yangon, is currently (at the moment of going to press) undergoing a complete refurbishment and is making significant inroads. The Aye Yar River View Resort in Bagan is currently (at the moment of going to print) undergoing a complete refurbishment and is making great inroads.
The Kaytumadi has been opened in Taungoo, a former Myanmar capitol, halfway between Mandalay and Yangon. It can be highly recommendable for customers who travel by road from Mandaly or Inle Lake to Yangon and want to interrupt their trip. All internal services performed within Myanmar's border in the past year have been re-confirmed, which includes services to and from Putao in the far northern hemisphere.

WHEN' S THE BEST HOLIDAY SEASON? Myanmar is best visited from November to March when the temperature is relatively low (15 - 30 Celsius on average) and there is virtually no precipitation.
April and May, the warmest time of the year, can often be over 40°C in Yangon, Mandalay and Bagan. Monsoons begin between mid-May and mid-June and bring heavy rainfall, particularly in the south and west of Myanmar, which lasts until September.
However, the Arakan Mountains protect the key area of Myanmar, where both Bagan and Mandalay are situated, from the heavy rain. IT' SHEPARD: IS IT TRAVELING SAFELY? Burma is a huge nation and generally a very secure place to go. There are no immunizations necessary for a Myanmar trip. While Myanmar's hospital is not internationally recognized, there are two Yangon hospital centers with fairly good health care services.
The Myanmar kitchen mainly contains raw ingredients such as pasta, biscuits and a side plate. Chili is a favourite in Myanmar and is often used in seasoned foods such as curry, but the food itself is often not as pungent as Thai is. There is a wide variety of Chinese, Thai and Hindi food available in Myanmar's large city cuisines.
You can find West European meals in some of Yangon's most popular gastronomic establishments in France and Italy, as well as in the large Yangon and Mandalay hotel establishments. In most areas of Myanmar there are many opportunities for shoppers with colorful market and stands that admire most of the highways. Negotiating is an essential part of Myanmar's lives in small stores and malls.
Departures on intercontinental routes are charged at a rate of $10. Myanmar's main language is Kyat (pronounced'chat'). Yangon has several authorised coin exchangers that will convert US dollars into FECs (Foreign Exchanges Certificates) and Kyat. The conversion of currencies into FECs is not mandatory and is not advised. Burma is a "US dollar country" and only small denomination notes and coins are generally acceptable.
Travellers cheques and Euro are not advisable as they cannot be cashed at your bank. We recommend exchanging only a small amount of US dollars into the Kyat (local currency), as US dollars are acceptable throughout the state. Travellers are also strongly encouraged not to switch at Yangon and Mandalay airport as foreign currencies are unfavourable.

However, please be aware that electric current is not always available and also in Yangon blackouts are common, especially during the hot and humid year.

There is a national dialling prefix for calling internationally (95) and this can be made by the big banks and the Central Telegraph Office in the big city. Services are improved, but communications are bad and calling internationally is costly. Web is available in multiple places across the nation, but travellers must be cognizant that their e-mail sites are unavailable due to regulatory constraints (e.g. Yahoo, Hotmail and many other e-mail sites are unavailable).
While Myanmar has opened most areas of the land to overseas visits, there are still some areas that require state approval. Mandalay-Bagan cruise is performed by a Chinese public transport service (except Wednesday and Sunday when a low speed public transport service is used) and lasts about 8hrs.
