Myanmar is gradually but certainly opening up to the tourist industry. Although there are still some gaps in the existing infrastructures, especially outside the city of Yangon, it is heartening to see a small but clear surge of intelligently designed hotels online. Just like the recently opened Hotel M, the latest Salve of the Hotel M Group after Singapore, San Francisco and Hong Kong and before the opening in Perth and Seoul.
It is no exaggeration to say that the 85-room Yangon is nothing Yangon has ever seen - its wood-clad interior of dark blue, wooden flooring, drip trailers and contemporary works of art stand in sharp opposition to the day-to-day accommodations in the town. The F and B outputs, which are managed by head cook Javier Ballesta, are also a delight; especially the wood-fired panorama pizza is an appealing start to the songs woven by regional and Asiatic guests.
Situated in Yaw Min Gyi County, the G's offers a fast trip to Yangon city centre, the vibrant Bogyoke Aung San Square and the stunningly pretty Shwedagon Lagoon, although it might be worthwhile to shop at the hotel's G-Shop, which sells handmade handicrafts from the town' Hla Day team.
