Burma Tourism to reach 4.68 million in 2015
Myanmar was popular with about 4.68 million visitors in 2015, 52% more than in 2014, according to the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism. Attendance rose significantly from 800,000 in 2011 to 3.08 million in 2014. It is the Ministry of Hotel and Tourism's target to welcome 4.5 to 5 million people by 2015.
According to formal statistics, more than 800,000 visitors came to Myanmar in 2015 by plane or boat; and the vast majority of Myanmar travelers travel across the country from Thailand. When arriving by plane, Thailand had the highest share of the overall number of visitors with over 200,000, followed by the population of China and Japan.
In 2014, the Department alleged that the industry had achieved sales of $1.78 billion. Recent changes in immigrant legislation with 12 kinds of visas and three kinds of multiple-entry visas have helped to increase the number of Myanmar's population.
