Burma sees 2015 as the year of the year for Myanmar's records.
In 2015 MYANMAR drew a new visitor number of 4.2 million, at least 800,000 of them by plane and boat and more than 2.2 million via frontier control points, according to the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism. Yangon alone registered over 1 million flights, an 13.1 percent growth from 2014.
Thailand was leading with 160,852 attendees, followed by China (99,821), Japan (86,491) and South Korea (62,306). The arrival of the guests also wandered to other places like Mandalay, Bagan and Inle Lake. Mandalay, the country's second biggest town, had 306,432 visits in 2015, 26 percent more than in 2014.
Myanmar Tourism Federation (MTF) vice-chairperson Aung Myat Kyaw said the recent policy environment has been encouraging more visitors to Myanmar. "The overall increase is around 20 percent compared to the previous year. I' m sure we'll see more arrival in 2016 and 2017," he said. Said that a grand total of 340 properties were opened in 2015, while 290 were opened in 2014. The number of tourists expected to arrive in 2020 is estimated at 7.49 million.

On my last journey to Myingun I went to visit old cavern churches that look like those in Bagan, and especially the cavern where Shin Izza Gawna is said to have wrought a philosopher's rock, and the monastery of 100 columns.
