From November, the enterprise will be offering Multi Carrier Wireless Information Local Loop, McWILL for a starting charge of 500,000 K.
"We will offer [wireless] Yangon web service and shoppers will only need a single MacWILL telephone to connect to a computer or laptop's computer connection," he said. As the spokesman added, the MacWILL system provides speech, web and videoconferencing, and the enterprise provides 128 kilobit/sec (kbps), 256kbps, 512kbps and 1 megabit/sec speed downloads.
This 256kbps will probably be the most common and will be K3 per second. A spokesman said that the prices for the other available products had not yet been fixed. McWILL was designed and built by Beijing Xinwei Telecom Technology and was successfully used at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
The system was launched a year ago in the Sagaing region as a Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) piloting and is now being implemented elsewhere. McWILL's services are likely to be competing with Shwe Than Lwin Media's satellite-based web, which the firm last months announcement but has not yet sold to the general market.
