Like hip-hop and country music, Aung San Suu Kyi played to win Myanmar's historic democratic elections.
At the beginning of this monthly, Myanmar underwent an important historic turning point when the first elections in 25 years took place and Myanmar's electorate swamped the military-backed governing National League for Democracy (NLD) in favour of the inspiring character Aung San Suu Kyi, better known as" the woman".
Her photograph was banished from office five years ago, but in the run-up to this vote you could see huge banner and signs with her face everywhere. Aung San Suu Kyi's NLD not only dominated the ad campaigns visually, but also won the music ad for her. Commenting on the foreign policy elections, Christian Caryl described the differences in approach between Suu Kyi's NLD and the military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) when it came to electoral songs: "All the political groups here have put these big lorries on them with boom boxes in vibrant colours, and they drive back and forth and they blow up music," Caryl said.
It' very fun because the NLD - Aung San Suu Kyi's body has a lot of music. Caryl referred to Rape music as "Fighting Peacock NLD", a promotional song called after the party's logo which includes rapper Anegga, G-Tone and Yan Yan Chan and vocalists Saw Phoe Khwar and She. "They have these very festive war songs," said Caryl.
How did you tell these guys how to run a campaign?" It contains a mixture of Latinoamba, dancing, raggae and hip-hop styles that are used in the music. Carnival! NLD is fucking easy to grasp. It' a track you want to hear on Popradio after the third one, loving after the 8th one and then hating after the centenary.
This text refers to the "proud peacock", "new era of history", "freedom from fear", "escape from poverty" and "a voice between our hearts". They can also find a USDP track on YouTube. "The " USDP 2015 " is not exactly a ceremonial walk, according to Carl's descriptions, but this is not too far away.
It is difficult not to match the Myanmar election in 2015 with the US election in 2008, when George W. Bush replaced the state for eight years. Obama presented a brightly coloured graphic image and a Joss Stone wrote and performed promotional track, not to speak of droplets of names in innumerable hip-hop music.
The Obama tide also faded alongside Burma's significant elections, in which the NLD won large majority seats in several governments at state, local and state levels. The USDP also suffered the loss after years of domination. The NLD's historical triumph is due to the force, charism and impact of Suu Kyi - but don't forget the might of a memorable game.
