What is the best time to visit Myanmar?
There are three different kinds of climate in Myanmar, the month of February to May is the warmest and driest one. Throughout this period the temperature can rise up to 40°C, but in the highlands it is the cold. From May to October is the time of the month of monsoons, while dryer and moderate conditions usually prevail from October to February (high season).
Nevertheless, Myanmar is easy to visit in all seasons. The northern and northeastern borders extend over the Tibet and Yunnan areas of China and have a length of 2,185km. Since much of the land is located between the Tropic of Cancer and the Equator, the climate in Myanmar is relatively simple compared to other Southeast Asian states.
The drought lasts from October to May, while the rainy period lasts from May to early October. The climate at the height of the rainy period is unforeseeable in some areas of Myanmar. Every time of the year has its own traits. March to June are regarded as the warmest month of the year, as the temperatures can rise to 40°C to 43°C.
The end of the rain in Myanmar is marked by October, which witnesses a sharp drop in temperatures and precipitation. Comfortable climate all over the countryside, mountain and highlands can encounter much colder ones. Bagan and Mandalay plains are the dryest areas of the land if you avoid strong rainfalls until August.
Furthermore, Myanmar's climate is significantly affected by altitudes when highlands have colder temperatures than southern, western and lower central tempera. For Myanmar, the best time to visit is from November to February, when the climate is temperate and it rains less, but this is also the high tourist seasons in Myanmar, as it can be more challenging to pick up shelter.
For example, many seasonal visitors with experience enjoy the low seasons, as the wheather is still nice in all seasons of the year. Especially the cold climate can be enjoyed all year round when you visit Mount Kyaiktiyo (Golden Rock), the temperatures are between 15°C and 20°C. Sometimes the hill is dominated by rain, clouds and fog.
In the evenings, when the temperature is colder than during the day, it is advisable to wear a sweater or fleet.
