Nyaung-U Bagan Nyaung U Airport - Nyaung-U (near Bagan), Myanmar (Burma)
When you go to Bagan, that's the airport you're going to. Small as it is, the airport is the gate to the Bagan area. It is located in Nyaung-U, north-east of the archaeological area of Bagan and about 10 minutes by car from Old Bagan.
Located just outside the archaeological zone of Bagan, it is used by the propeller aircraft - the rumbling of the jets poses too great a danger to the historical Pagoda near by. The airport identification is NYU. You will also see whether as Nyaung Oo Airport or Bagan Nyaung Oo Airport inscribed. The Group concentrates on 33 of its most important locations.
It does not provide the degree of detail of the other two and is more difficult to find in the West, but still provides useful abstracts of some of the most important pages. Although quite out of date, it has its own value with backgrounds on a series of palagodas and shrines and fascinating historic photographs of what the memorials were like in the mid-20th cent. sometimes very different from today after they were restored.
