Is it possible to drive from India to Thailand?
You can drive to Thailand. To drive in Myanmar, you must also have a lead vehicle that can be organized by the government. They also need an MMT permission to use Myanmar. You can get them from your Myanmar tourist agency. It is obligatory to have a Myanmar tour leader to accompany a group that can be rented from Myanmar tour-operators.
In addition, you will need a provisional driver's license and a numberplate. However, you should have an internationally valid driver's license for traveling in Thailand. Route: SHELLONG to Moreh is a 650 km long voyage and you will enjoy some breathtaking views of the countryside on your way. You will cross the Indian-Burmese boundary at Moreh.
Keep in mind that the Indian/Myanmar frontier is heavily controlled for cocaine and drug-trafficking. As soon as you have crossed the frontier and received the necessary documentation, you can proceed to Kaley. Once you have crossed the boundary of Mount Moreno, you should take this route: Myanmar has many great vistas to see, you can spend a few additional day and make a few diversions along the way.
At Myawaddy you can at last traverse the Myanmar-Thailand frontier.
