Myanmar: Dangerous Voyage of Rohingya-Refugitives | Myanmar

A spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for the Refugee said that the number of Rohingya Muslims who fled to Bangladesh in the last two week in order to avoid the fighting in Myanmar has risen to about 270,000. Vivian Tan said the number had bound from an estimation of 164,000 on Thursday because the Agency had found new bags of fugitives in peripheral areas.

On Friday, a UN officer said to the AFP press office that more than 1,000 persons may have already been murdered in Myanmar, especially the Rohingya Muslim population. "These[ the number of refugees ] do not necessarily represent the newcomers within the last 24 hrs, but that we have been identifying more individuals in different areas that we did not know before," Tan said.

This really means that we need to intensify our reaction and that the Myanmar issue needs to be tackled urgently."
