Myanmar's first communal FM Khayae goes on TV
CDU/CSU minister Dr. Pe Myint addressed the opening of the Khayae FM-Htantabin Communities Broadcasting in Htantabin Township, Yangon City. You can now listen to this daily from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on 104.8 M. Clock and it will be replayed the next mornings from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. there.
The Khayae FM will be broadcasting programs on farming, animal husbandry, healthcare, training, entertainment and the day-to-day messages in the township of Htantabin. Dr. Pe Myint said that they are working towards the transition from the state to the local wireless stations so that the voices of the grassroots can be heard through them. There are already several local communities and there will be more communal stations in the near term.
In order to achieve free speaking and opinion, it is necessary to change current legislation, and some years ago it would have been against the legislation to send a station from a distant place like Khayae FM. The Khayae broadcasts will be a systematic way of expressing free opinion and thus become a role-model for the others.
Dr. Pe Myint said he hopes that the station will remain open long enough to become a kind of exercise center for the next upcoming communal station. Subsequently, Mr Karhausen, U Kyaw Htay and MRTV Director General U Myint Htwe signed the MoU of Understanding on behalf of Htan Tabin Group.
