Myanmar Air Force strengthened in Russia Myanmar and Russia will be implementing a major roadmap for bi-lateral defence co-operation, Russia's Defence Minister and Army General Sergei Shoigu said during his January 2018 trip to Myanmar. Russia's Ministry of Defence is committed to developing the relationship to strengthen the fighting capability of Myanmar's Forces. Last year, the armed forces conducted a series of trainings and drills and agreed upon further bilaterally on strategic alliances. Myanmar Republic is an active proponent of supplies of weapons and equipment for Russia, six of which are Su-30MK multi-purpose combat planes and six Yak-130s are already supplied in excess of the six.

Not only are they being used as lead-in trainers for the newly ordered Myanmar Air Force fighter, which comprises 16 JF-17s and six Su-30s, but they are also being used in the roles of lightweight attacks to assist the troops in the fight against Islamic terrorists. Shoigu was confident that the Su-30 would become the most important fighter of Myanmar's air force.
