This is a guide to using Myanmar Unicode: key man

For Myanmar Unicode, there is good Linux compatibility with Windows with Tavultesoft Keyman and the associated KMFL SCIM engine for Linux. I have now created an open code Windows alternate named Ekaya which is KMFL driven. Until recently, Keyman was free for use. You' ll have to make the payment to build a keyboard, but the keyboard here is already made.

While KMFL can use the same keyboard sources as Keyman, it is subject to a GPL-licence. The KMFL is a SCIM plug-in, the Smart Common Input Method Framework for Linux. The KMFL sources and binary code can be downloaded from Sources Forge. Some Myanmar Unicode keyboard styles are now available for Keyman. myWin (based on the WinMyanmar fonts' tradition ) is Unicode 5.1 supported.

Burma NLP has also created one for Myanmar3, but it should be supported by Padauk and other Unicode 5.1 and higher supported typefaces. Unicode styles do not exactly correspond to the old styles, since all old styles depended on complex Alt and Ctrl keyboard shortcuts to get the different Glyphen shortcuts.

This is no longer necessary with an intelligent entry technique, so all Myanmar signs can only be entered with the standard keyboard keys + shift combo. Start the Ekaya installation program and make sure that the languages toolbar is activated under Control Panel / Regional and Lang. Start the Keyman my-Win installation program and select the desired Keyman release.

Others must buy a Tavultesoft licence. When you have Keyman already preinstalled, you can simply select the file to be downloaded and reinstalled by double-clicking it. To change the keyboard, click the Keyman symbol in the taskbar. It may be necessary to activate the" Keyman Language" option in the Keyman Options dialogue box.

Get the appropriate RPM or debian package for your Linux distributions from kmfl.sourceforge.net or construct it from code. Get a.kmn archive of keyboard directories and set up a kmnfl folder as either ~/.scim/kmfl (current users only) or /usr/share/scim/kmfl (system-wide) and then copy the.kmn and icon directories to that folder.

You can choose SCIM as the entry mode in most GAK apps by right-clicking and selecting Entry Methods->SCIM Entry Mode. Standard SCIM and SCIM bridge inputs work well in RTK apps. These can be selected in most GAK apps under Entry methods in the right-click-mode.

In OpenOffice, however, you may need to specify some parameters for KMFL to work properly. Comes with Firefox and requires you to use xim's GTK_IM_MODULE instead of skim or scim-bridge. The UTF-8 locale can also cause issues for UTF. When you have created from your sources, you probably also need to include LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib.
