Burma is constantly declining

Myanmar's single most important asset, the korat, has been depreciating against the US dollar since the introduction of the formerly strictly managed exchange rates in April 2012, worrying investor concern about the euro's strength and the devaluation of depleted earnings. The Central Bank of Myanmar initially ended the 35-year old man-made monetary system in 2012, which had set the USD at around 6Kyats.

The latter was superseded by a variable exchange ratein relation to the US dollars from 818 kyats, whereby the participating bankers were permitted to deal with a plus or minus of 0.8 percent of the benchmark exchange ratein. As of 13 May 2013, however, the exchange rates were around 900 kyats to the US dollars, which shows that the financial environment created by the Federal Reserve is not sufficiently robust to limit it.

It is monitoring a dayly auctions in which up to 11 traders' institutions are involved to set the benchmark price for the trade on that date, but their own actions to keep the price within the required bandwidth are obviously too feeble. In the near term, analyst estimate that the exchange rates of Kyoto to the US Dollars will be above 1,000, a figure that corresponds to the former "street rate" in periods of monetary control.

As a result, revenues will be lower for all industries involved with FX, such as producers, raw material suppliers, utilities, hotels, tourism and tourism operators, airline operators and those that purchase and sell FX by bank transfers. Recently, the Myanmar administration has facilitated exchange controls and allowed up to $10,000 to be exchanged with Myanmar Kyats without any document.

From a technical point of view, this could help to speculate against the Republic of Korea on a larger scale. Monetary analysts say that a few million US bucks worth of speculation would be enough to seriously injure the country.
