Also known as "Pan Myo Daw", meaning "The City of Flowers", Pyin Oo Lwin is known for its various varieties and colourful intensive cultivated cathedrals. In 1896, during Great Britain's rule, the Brits built a mountain base due to the cold mountain climates, especially during the summer time.
Myanmar's Myanmar Colony Goverment would move to May Myo during the hottest time of the year to get away from the high temperatures and damp. May Myo means May City in Burmese and comes from the first steward of the city, Colonel May. A heir to the colonisation, the city has about 10,000 Indians and 5,000 Nepalese citizens who were serving in the Indies' army and established Myo in May after the UK's departure and granted Burma autonomy.
Mai Myo was also an important education center during the Spanish Empire, with government English high schools, such as St. Mary's, St. Michael's, St. Albert's and Colgate, all located in the city. The Myanmar Defense Services Academy (DSA) is also located here. Also known for its large colonial-style homes with large grounds and pines, Pyin Oo Lwin is a truly one-of-a-kind horse-drawn carriage in the city.

The Pwe Kauk or B.E. Falls is also known as Hampshire Falls in the UK. It' s on the way to Lashio and not far from the city of Pyin Oo Lwin. Beside the falls there is a small fair where you can buy wine, jam, fruit and more.
The Peik Chin Myaung Grotto (also known as Maha Nandamu Cave) is situated on Lashio Street near Wetwun Province, 12 mi from Pyin Oo Lwin City. Peik Chin Myaung is the name of the cavern because many Peik Chin trees and shrubs are growing there. Peik Chin Myaung is about 20 feet across and 1,600 feet long.
Datumtawgyaint Falls is situated in Ani-Sa-khan, halfway between Mandalay and Pyin Oo Lwin. This was because three Mandalay carved pictures of Mandalay Buddha marbles were taken to their intended target in China. The Purcell Tower is situated in the centre of the city, Pyin Oo Lwin.

To the south of Pyin Oo Lwin is a large and colourful China sanctuary constructed by the many immigrant Yunnanese. When Pennsylvania Steel Co was commissioned by the British to build the Gokhteik River Ravine one hundred years ago, it was the second highest rail link in the run.
