Tunggyi (Burmese: ????????????????; MLCTS: tung kri: mus. Shan: ????????????????[we? mjo? kji]), is the capitol of Shan State, Myanmar. From 2013 Taunggyi has an expected 345,593 inhabitants and is the fifth biggest town in Myanmar (with Pathein, Mawlamyine) and lies at an altitude of 1,436 on the seavel.
Taunggyi means "huge mountain" in Burma's terminology and is the name of the hill crest in the eastern part of the town, a part of the Shan Hills system whose distinctive peak is referred to as Taung-chun or "The Spur". On a local level, this skid is known as Phaya Taung.
