Luang Prabang

Prabang Luang

All you need to know about Luang Prabang. Luang Prabang in the north of Laos was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. The small city, regarded by many travelers and authors as the centre of Lao civilization, is surrounded by hills and lies 700 meters above sealevel at the junction of the Nam Khan and Mekong rivers.

Guests are exposed to an inflammatory business bubble that does not affect the remainder of the state. As Laos' most important travel destination and (probably) the most attractive place in Southeast Asia, fortunately enough travellers will be paying more for the inherent delights of food, drink and sleep than in the Vientiane metropolis.

Prabang Luang was the old princely capitol of the kingdom Lan Xang until King Phothisarat transferred the administration to Vientiane in 1545. Yet it has overlooked Vientiane as the travel resort of Choice with its blend of disintegrating Franco architectural style, glittering chapels and vast scenic beauties. All of the historic part of the city is devoted to tourists, from former king residences to over 33 walls (temples) on the touristic itinerary.

The former royal capitol is still the principal center for Buddhist study in Laos and the ideal place for religious meditation. The Mekong River's water is milky-brown and offers plenty of opportunities for swimming, climbing and sailing through Luang Prabang. Laos only opened up to tourists in 1989 and the previously isolated land of Southeast Asia evolved a small but stable economic system founded on local commerce and commerce.

The small and charming city where most of the local people sleep until 22:00 is today one of the wealthiest and most frequented Lao regions.
