Longyearbyen Group ( Norway pronunciation: ?l??ji?rby??n ] (literally: Longyear Town) is the ample housing and administration area of Svalbard, Norway. The Longyearbyen is situated in the Longyear valley and on the banks of the Adventfjord, a cove of Isfjorden on the western shores of Spitsbergen. Longyearbyen Municipal Council has taken on many of the same community functions since 2002, among them utility, educational, cultural, fire service, road and port services.

Svalbard is the capital of the Svalbard region. The city, known as Longyear City until 1926, was founded and renamed by John Munro Longyear, whose Arctic Coast Company began to mine coals in 1906. Longyearbyen has historically been a trading city, but most miners have migrated to Sveagruva since the 90s, while the city has seen a sharp rise in tourist and research activity.

At that time, the University Centre in Svalbard, the Svalbard Global Seed Vault and the Svalbard Satellite Station were established. Svalbard Airport and Svalbard Church serve the municipality.
