The name LIAT is an acronym for Leeward Islands Air Transport and was established in 1956 in Montserrat with an airplane between Antigua and Montserrat. It is now in the possession of several Carribean government agencies. The company began modernizing its fleets in 2014 by adding new ATR 42-600 and 72-600 planes to its fleets and replaced older Bombardier Dash 8 100 and 300, which formed the fleets and served the Carribean for many years.
